Review: Sameera stands out in Vedi

The best thing about Sun Picture's Vedi (Firecracker), directed by Prabhudeva, is that it never takes itself seriously. It has some action, adventure, romance, some laughs, a thundering climax and all you need to do is sit back, relax and watch for the meagre turning-points in this story, which is the remake of the Telugu hit, Souryam.

Balu (Vishal) arrives in Kolkata for a reason that is not disclosed to us. He runs into the balloon-stuffed Sandesh (Vivek), masquerading as a muscled wonder, and asks to be appointed as a physical training teacher in a college. He's forced to seek accommodation at the home of Paru (Sameera Reddy), who, in filmi fashion, takes some sort of dislike to him, does everything to oust him, but ends up falling for him, and sings songs in bewitching foreign locales.

At the other end there's Aishwarya (Poonam Kaur), Paru's college-mate and neighbour, in whom Balu shows inordinate interest (though not in a romantic way). Exactly why he takes such an interest in her affairs, and who he really is, is revealed in the next two hours. There's also a villain, Eswaramoorthy (Shayaji Shinde) who is the epitome of silliness.

The template of a story like this goes according to a pre-set pattern, with plenty of mindless comedy and action thrown in and Vedi is no different. The first half, with its liberal doses of humour, moves at a brisk pace. The second half, once the minor knots have been untangled, drags and dithers.

As expected, Vishal flexes his muscles, throw goons into the air and smashes into them like a pile-driver, all the while never moving a muscle. He throws out both physical and verbal punches with barely an effort.

Vivek struts around as a pseudo-macho man and tickles your funny-bone slightly. Poor Shayaji Shinde, a man capable of great acting, has been reduced for the umpteenth time to a giggling, silly villain who makes brawny men quiver, but not the hero.

Urvasi, in a tiny role manages to wring some laughs, along with Sriman, who looks silly.

It's Sameera Reddy who is a real joy to watch. She brings a great deal of enjoyment to her tiny role. She dances, laughs and delivers her lines with such enthusiasm that she invests it with an energy that's infectious. Beside her, Poonam Kaur, though in an important role, appears washed out.

None of Vijay Antony's songs stand out. If not for R D Rajasekar's snappy camera-work, they wouldn't be watchable either. V T Vijayan's editing is rather effective. But, then, nothing in the movie really requires superlative work from anyone.

None of Prabhudeva's signature touches are visible in the film. In fact, the movie looks like a mass-product that could have been turned out by any random commercial director.

Vedi is just another run-of-the-mill entertainer.

Review 2

After Avan Ivan, Vishal has emerged one of the top heroes of Tamil industry and expectations are obviously running high as his next Vedi is hitting the screens today. With Prabhudeva helming the affairs and the movie released by Sun Pictures, it is a grand outing for Vishal. 

Story

The movie begins on an interesting note in a colourful manner with a peppy song featuring music composer Devi Sri rasad.

The first half of the movie sees Prabhakaran (Vishal) being chased by henchmen. He escapes to Kolkata  and seeks admission to a college. There he Deepa (Poonam Kaur) and asks her for a room to stay. She suggests he talk to her friend. In the meantime, Vijay runs into Paro(Sameera Reddy) and her gang of friends who rag all boys in college. But Prabhakaran outwits them. Paro comes to know the other side of Prabhakaran. And as expected fall for him.

Meanwhile, Divya is often troubled by some goons and Prabhakaran saves her. A flashback reveals the mission Prabhakaran is up to and he is on an undercover. A sibling story in undercover backdrop

Performance

Vishal is at ease in his role -- fighting with panache and dancing with elan. He seems to have come out of Avan Ivan mode. The expressions and his angry young man's portrayal sit well on him. Impressive is Sameera Reddy. She is more than a regular heroine. She is at ease in her encounters with Vishal. She shakes her legs well for the songs. Poonam Kaur is impressive in her role. Watch out for some interesting cameos in the film. 

Technicalities

Music by Vijay Antony is the highlight. For a commercial film, he does all justice. The songs Icchu and Eppadi mazhai are impressive. Cinematography by R D Rajasekhar is other major highlight. He captures Kolkata well. The sleek editing by V T Vijayan adds pace to the script. Prabhudeva has crafted the film in an interesting manner and there are no dull moments.

Analysis

Though a remake of a Telugu hit (Sowriyam), the movie is entertaining and enjoyable, for there are smart changes in the script to suit Tamil audience. However it ends up as a predictable cliched commercial masala.

Vishal - Lingusamy combo again, will start rolling from Jan

Hot on the grapevine is the news that after the success of Sandakozhi, Lingusamy and Vishal will come together again for the actor's next movie. Vishal is currently busy with Prabhu Deva's Vedi, which is expected to grace theatres soon; Lingusamy is busy with his multi-starrer Vettai which has Madhavan, Arya, Sameera Reddy and Amala Paul in lead roles.

The proposed project will go on floors after the release of both projects. "We have to shoot three songs and have some patchwork left for Vettai. We are looking to release it in December. Post that, I'll begin my film with Vishal, which should go on floors either by January or February," Lingusamy was quoted as saying. It may be Yuvan to score the music.

Vishal-Trisha film has been titled as 'Samaran'

A few days back we came to know that Vishal is all set to share the screen space with Trisha for the first time ever. Now we come to know that the film has been titled as Samaran, which means The Warrior. The title itself indicates that the film is an action packed entertainer.

After turned many offers many offers made by Vishal, Trisha has finally accepted the offer as she found the script very interesting. The film is said to be a quickie and will be wrapped up in just 120 days. The film will be directed by Thiru while Bharani Ramesh will be producing this quickie. Yuvan Shankar Raja has been roped in to score the music for Samaran.

Vishal will be starting this film after completing his on going project Vedi. The expectations are high around the film as Trisha is joining Vishal for the first time.

The cast and crew of the film are yet to be finalized and will be announced officially soon

Vishal's 'Vedi' not for Deepavali

Vishal's next 'Vedi' will not hit the screens for Deepavali as expected. Instead, it would see the light of the day almost a month before the day of lights. This has been confirmed by none other than Vishal himself.

Talking to journalists in Chennai Saturday night, the actor said that the film would be released by the end of September. "Producer Vikram Krishna has been tirelessly working for Vedi's release this month," he said.

Prabhudeva, who had helmed the film, expressed confidence that it would work big time in the box office. "Though it is inspired by a Telugu movie ('Souryam'), we have made many changes to the screenplay," he said.

Throwing light on the storyline, the director said that 'Vedi' is about the protagonist's search for a particular thing. "What is he searching for and how his search comes to an end is the crux of the film," Prabhudeva added. Music composer Vijay Antony and heroine Sameera Reddy also spoke at the event.

Sameera Reddy Kisses Vishal 30 times in a bathroom

Sameera Reddy has kissed Vishal Krishna 30 times in a bathroom. In return, he managed to kiss her only 10 times. Well, we are talking about their intimate scene in upcoming Tamil film Vedi, which was shot recently on them under the direction of Prabhu Deva. Talking about the scene, Vishal Krishna says that generally Mumbai girls have language issues.

Even Sameera Reddy faced same problem while delivering some dialogues. It was a scene, where the actress has to tell a humour line and kiss him. But she kept on forgetting the line after kissing him on his cheek. When she successfully managed to say the dialogue, her kiss did not come out well, which resulted in at 30 takes.

Adding to that Prabhu Deva shot the same scenes from different angles, claims Vishal Krishna. Defending the intimate scene, the actor says that the scene has not been forcefully included. Indeed, they are following the scenes from the original version of Vedi, which was titled Souryam. The Telugu version starred Gopichand and Anushka Shetty in the leads.

However, the audio of Vedi is releasing today.

Aravind Swamy is back! plays Villain role in Vishal - Trisha - Thiru Film

Vishal is all set to share the screen space with Trisha for a film to be directed by Thiru. After Trisha the latest joinee in the cast is Popular star Arvind Samy.

Arvind Samy had kept away from Kollywood for quite sometime now but hearing to Thiru’s script he decided to face the camera after a long sabbatical. Arvind Swamy known for his soft natured characters is all set to play the role of a Villain in the film. Even Trisha too was impressed with the script and has given her nod for the film.

The film is said to be a quickie and will be wrapped up in just 120 days. Harris Jayraj has been signed up for composing the tunes for the film. Bharani Ramesh will be producing the film.

After completing Vedi, Vishal will be starting this film and expectations are high as Trisha is joining Vishal after turning down many offers made by him earlier.

Vishal – Bala together again!

It was through Arya, Vishal got in touch with director Bala for Avan Ivan and this is a known fact as it has been confirmed by Vishal in many interviews.

In fact during the initial days of shoot for Avan Ivan, director Bala was not very happy in casting Vishal but later as the film progressed with few scenes Bala was impressed with his outstanding performance.  Avan Ivan’s main highlight for being successful is Vishal’s performance.

The latest buzz in the tinsel town is that the duo is in plans in coming up with another movie. The director is busy in preparing the script and the film will not be on the lines of typical Bala style. This film is completely contrary to his earlier outings and will concentrate on entertaining child and those young at heart.

Just give a break to your anxiety; the film will not happen immediately as Bala is coming up with a low budget film with all debutants. The duo’s film is expected to go on floors mostly by next year end.

It’s not for publicity: Vishal

Vishal trashed the reports that were popping up from a section of media about his forthcoming flick Prabhakaran. The reports claimed that the filmmakers have titled the film Prabhakaran just because of the huge value the title holds and it also added that it’s just a publicity stunt by the makers.

Vishal said “It is not at all a publicity stunt and we have named the film Prabhakaran as my role in the film is titled so. Moreover it is just a working title and it may go for a change in the near future. The film is shaping up in a brisk pace and is almost nearing its completion”.

Prabhakaran an action-adventure entertainer is directed by Prabhu Deva. Sameera Reddy is sharing the screen space with Vishal while Vivek provides the comedy. The film, is a remake of Telugu film Souryam.

Vishal’s home banner GK Film Corporation is producing the film.

Prabhakaran is tentatively slated for an August 15^th release.

Vishal off to Himalayas! Vishal off to Himalayas!

Vishal who is busy for the last two years with Bala’s Avan Ivan has took a break from his regular work.

The actor worked hard continuously for nearly 250 days for the film and his hard work has not gone in vain as the film turned out to be success at the box office.

Vishal has taken a 10 day break from his work and has flown to the world’s best spa- Ananda in Tehri Garwal in the foothills of the Himalayas. The actor is undergoing a rejuvenation program fro days which includes ancient yoga techniques and Ayurvedic practices with international spa therapies in super deluxe five star comforts.

The actor is going to return with batteries fully charged as this is one of the best places to relax. Once he is back from Himalayas he will be joining the sets of Prabhakaran directed by Prabhu Deva in Kolkatta to wrap up the climax scenes.
