Whats going on with 'Ko' Karthika?

Yester year super heroine Radha’s daughter Karthika made her debut as heroine through the film Ko directed by K V Anand. After this film Karthika has not accepted any new films.

Radha while speaking about this said, " There are news that my younger daughter Thulasi is being introduced as heroine in Manirathnam’s film which has Karthik son in the lead role. There is nothing like that.
Every heroine will have the desire to act in Manirathnam’s film. If he had approached us, we would not have definitely refused. But nothing like that has happened. We would have ourselves mentioned that if anything like that has happened.

Many are asking me about the film in which Karthika is acting after Ko. She is getting lots of opportunities. We are listening to lots of scripts. Karthika is waiting for challenging. But so far she has not got such a kind of role."

Maniratnam's next movie on Tamil Fisherman and Sri Lankan Army

Reports appearing in the press say that ace director Maniratnam has almost finalized the script of his next film and that it would be based on the troubles and hardships faced by Indian (Tamilian) fishermen at the hands of the merciless Navy personnel of Sri Lanka. This would be the second time Mani would be making a film involving the Lankan Government after his ‘Kannathil Muthamittal’ almost a decade back.

In typical Maniratnam’s style, the script would be laced with a mild love story. Mani is likely to launch Gautham, actor Karthick’s son, as hero with this film. The heroine would be another newcomer in Tulansi, who is the youngest daughter of yesteryear’s actress Radha. It may be noted that Tulasi’s elder sibling Karthika debuted as heroine in K.V. Anand’s ‘Ko’ opposite Jiiva only a few months back.

The natural forces of the sea-waters, night and moon would be playing ‘significant’ roles in Mani’s film, it is reliably learnt. Though Akshara Haasan, younger daughter of Kamal Haasan, was in the reckoning to play the female lead, she was replaced at the last moment by Tulasi as Akshara’s mother Sarika had told Suhasini Maniratnam in clear terms that she wanted her daughter to make her acting debut only through a Hindi film.

Almost three decades after Karthick and Radha debuted as on-screen pair in Bharathiraaja’s celebrated, revolutionary film ‘Alaigal Oyvadhillai’, their siblings are set to make their acting debut in Marniratnam’s upcoming film. A.R. Rehman would be scoring the music of the film which would have story and dialogues penned by noted author Jayamohan’.

It’s well known that ace director Mani Ratnam is in plans of directing a film based on pure love which is set against the backdrop of a fishing village in southern Tamil Nadu.

Now we hear that Mani has roped in veteran actor Karthik’s son Gautham and Tulasi daughter of actress Radha and sister of KO heroine Karthika. The director has been to Mumbai last week and has visited Radha’s house to meet her daughter Thulasi, who is studying in the 9th standard. But Radha is in a dilemma whether to launch her daughter or not as she feels that Thulasi is too young to debut in films. However Radha is yet to take a call on this regard.

This will be a casting coup of sorts if Tulasi and Gautham come together. If we move into the flashback of 30 years, Tulasi’s mom Radha made her screen debut opposite Karthik, Gautham’s dad in Bharathiraja classic Alaigal Oyivathillai?

Undoubtedly this is for the first time a noted hero’s son will be debuting opposite the daughter of the heroine of his first film!

Filmfare Honors for Veera & Kani

It might have been a little disappointment for these actresses for their anticipation over National awards went wrong. But now, it happens to be a heavy downpour of honors for their spellbinding performances. ‘Chiyaan’ Vikram has never left anyone to overtake him when it comes down to awards. The actor has gained ‘Best Actor’ award for his mind-boggling performance in Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavanan’ while Anjali bags ‘Best Actress Award’ for her realistically powerful approach to ‘Kani’ character in ‘Angaadi Theru’.

It was double cheers for A.R Rahman as he won ‘Best Music Director Award’ in both Tamil and Telugu for the versions of ‘Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya’ (Ye Maaya Chesavo).

Parthiban walked away winning ‘Best Supporting Actor award’ for his commendable spell in ‘Aayirathil Oruvan’ and Saranya Ponvannan as ‘Best Supporting actress’ in ‘Thenmerku Paruva Kaatru’.
