Muran might be the only Tamil cinema which was pitched to over 50 producers before it was accepted. Rajjan Madhav, son of acclaimed Malayalam music composer Raveendran, is the director. Rajjan Madhav has earlier worked as co-director with Mysskin in Anjaathaey, Nandhalala and Yudham Sei. Rajjan's brother Sajjan Madhav has composed its music.

Most producers who heard the script were impressed with it but recommended a different star cast, which would take the film to a differrent level. However, Rajjan was insistent on the same cast and kept pitching it with different producers. Finally, Cheran decided to produce the film under his home banner but couldn't complete the film at one stage; then UTV Motion Pictures took over the project and acquired its release rights. Cheran and Prasanna play the lead roles in this big budget film which also features Jayaprakash, Haripriya, Nikhita and Prathap Pothan in prominent roles.

The film, which received a clean U certificate (without any cuts) from the Censor Board recently, is all set to grace theatres on September 30, 2011. According to sources, the Censor officials appreciated the concept, camera works and performance of the lead actors. They also wished good luck to the entire Muran team.
