Comedian Singamuthu has come down hard on fellow comedian Vadivelu for trying to make him the ‘scapegoat’ in the land fraud case in which the latter finds himself. “Vadivelu’s efforts in making me the scapegoat won’t succeed; I’d very soon come out with sold proof to expose all the wrong-doings that have been indulged in by him,” said Singamuthu.
Vadivelu and Singamuthu formed a successful combination as comedians and thrilled and made the audience laugh out of their hearts in several movies. The two, however, fell out last year when it was said that Vadivelu made use of the clout he wielded in the erstwhile regime and got Singamuthu arrested in a couple of cases.
Pazhaniappan, a retired bank official, had lodged a complaint with the Suburban Police Commissioner stating that Vadivelu had prepared ‘forged’ documents with Singamuthu’s assistance and had taken into his possession lands valued at Rs.20 lakhs in the Irumbuliyur locality off Tambaram. Vadivelu, reacting to the allegation, not only claimed that he was innocent but put the blame on Singamuthu whose words he blindly followed in inking the deal.
“When we were in good terms, I indeed helped Vadivelu in purchasing some lands. He would never register the land in his name as he feared he’d have to pay income tax. He would take the ‘power’ of the property in my name or in the names of some of his relatives. Afterwards, he’d get the lands registered in some name(s). The case cited by Shri Pazhaniyappan is one such case and I didn’t know that the land was a disputed one.
“It was Vadivelu who finalized the deal and I had nothing to do with it. Vadivelu simple tries to make me the scapegoat so that he can escape from the case. Contrary to his claims, he didn’t make me a known comedian; I tried my best along with Murugesan to reach this place. If Vadivelu continues with his lies, I’d have to expose him by releasing some ‘solid’ proofs,” said Singamuthu.
